Robert Flischel
The University of Cincinnati is more than a research institution. It has becomea forerunner in architectural design as it redefines the urban campus for the 21st century. Photographer Robert A. Flischel, a UC graduate, wanted us to help him bring this historical-modern campus to life in a new book. He wanted it to be more than a book of his photography. He wanted the viewer to view the images as if they are walking the campus.
The final book has been described as a “homogenization of photography and design.” The use of white space is critical in giving each image its own space. Graphic elements and printing techniques such as ornamental clear varnishes are used to accent the images instead of competing with them. Art direction was established so that each chapter the viewer starts with viewing the building from a distance. As they step through the chapter they get closer and closer to building viewing intricate details.
