A Dialogue Between Art and Design
A commissioned collaborative project with designer Joe Napier to create a poster series for the Richard M. Ross Art Museum to promote the opening of a design show curated by Alumnus David Knight. We decided to take photos of the tools that critically shaped and changed how design is produced: the letterpress and the Apple computer. Keeping that in mind, we decided to give the posters a hand made quality by shooting pictures of the tools in their used conditions. Headline type was set on the computer, printed out, and repeatedly scanned on the photocopy machine until the type was somewhat reconstructed.
The final posters have a hand crafted quality to them but still allow the viewer to obtain pertinent show information.
